A Date for Riley, A Date for Us

Riley had a date. Kevin and I had a date.

A Date for Riley, A Date for Us
...Still easier to traverse than Philadelphia...

Riley's boyfriend Taaro invited her over to his mom's house on Sunday... in the heart of Philadelphia.

So we sat in standstill traffic for an hour and dropped her off there, and then Kevin and I headed back to Langhorne with plans to hike at Playwicki Park.

It had been awhile since breakfast though, so Kevin wanted to stop and grab something to eat somewhere, even if it was just a soft pretzel or something.

I needed to use a bathroom though since Nina had given us large bottles of vitamin water when we dropped Riley off.

We were actually parked in the lot at the Langhorne Dunkin Donuts, when Kevin annnounced how much he hates giving Dunkin his patronage these days (since they've long since stopped doing all the things that once made them great, like making their own doughnuts on the premises).

He pointed out that we could just go a mile up the road to the Langhorne Brewery, which we drive by all the time, but only when we're already headed over to Catherine and Ron's for dinner.

So we had lunch there instead :)

And then we headed another mile down the road to Playwicki:

We found some strange insect eggs on a tree:

and took some beautiful photos:

We weren't remotely hungry after our lunch at the brewery, but we'd already planned to have dinner at Qdoba while Riley was gone. So we stopped by the restaurant while we were already out and about, but we took dinner home and stuck it in the fridge for later.

Riley had a blast with Taaro: They made pumpkin cookies and played video games together. And later on when she texted us that she was on her way home, she said she was hoping Taaro, Kenny, and Nina could come upstairs for a few minutes to meet the cats.

Kevin and I have been a little apprehensive about having guests, only because we packed up basically everything nonessential in our apartment last year and it's all still sitting in boxes at his parents' house.

So, our walls are bare.

And our furniture is sparse.

And it's not exactly all that cozy in here for the time being.

But Kenny and Nina were very gracious and totally chill :)

And even though we had just visited with Nina a few hours prior, Kevin and Kenny hadn't talked since the PSSAs back in April, so they got to geek out about chess and computers and making fun of Windows.

Then a few minutes after Taaro and his parents left, Rosie came up from downstairs to give me some kind of hot chai oatmeal smoothie.

(I was afraid to drink it because my body doesn't do well with oatmeal, but Kevin said it was phenomenal).

And finally yesterday, my coworker Mike brought in a Ninja air fryer that he said has sat on top of his fridge for two years but has never been used.

And he gave it to me for free! So we're looking forward to trying that out one of these days :)

😀
Thanks Mike!
