A Roy of Sunshine

Kevin's Uncle Roy turns 75! And we harvest some monster garlic (not for his birthday, but just because it was time).

A Roy of Sunshine

We spent most of yesterday at Kevin's parents' house celebrating his Uncle Roy's 75th birthday.

It started with a very important phone conversation Liv and I were having:

But then the call dropped!

It's okay though, Liv sent me an apology:

😂
"Okay Shoeoogle... text 'Theena, Sorry about the call quality. It turns out this was a slipper the entire time."

Riley rode along with Kevin's sister to pick up the hoagie trays. And soon, most of Kevin's family had arrived and the party got going.

After a couple hours of swimming, eating, and visiting, we sang happy birthday and had dessert:

Everybody had a blast :)

Liv wanted to play frisbee with "Keb" and "Gamma":

Riley and Ava were happy to hang out in person for the first time in months:

Kevin's Windows shirt crashed, as usual:

And Liv and Catherine tried swapping shoes:

😬
Hopefully Liv told her about the poor cellular reception her slippers get. Are those even 3G?

At some point Kevin suggested that we take a few minutes to step away and harvest our garlic, since it was that time and we didn't know when we'd be here next.

Kevin has been playing Darwin with this garlic ever since his friend Richard gave him some to plant back in 2017. He saves the biggest heads each season for replanting the following year.

I think the results speak for themselves:

We had 19 out of 20 cloves sprout back in October, and 18 of those 19 turned into healthy baseball-sized heads. (The last was all rotted out like something had eaten through it.)

Naturally, we set aside the five biggest ones for replanting, sent a head home with anyone who wanted some, and took the rest back to our apartment :)

Eventually the party wound down, since a lot of us have young kids, long drives, or both. I snapped this awesome cloud just as we headed out:

We spent the rest of the evening just relaxing.

Having finished Breaking Bad last week, we decided to start watching Lucifer: The devil grows bored with governing Hell and decides to move to Los Angeles—

"Is there a difference?"

—where he falls in love with a homicide detective and helps the LAPD solve crimes.

We've heard the show gets a tad campy halfway through, but we're giving it a shot :)

And anyway,

🎂
Happy 75th birthday to Uncle Roy!
