Busy as a Bee!

Visiting with family and with friends, and renovating the hive a bit

Busy as a Bee!

This past Saturday Kevin, Riley, and I headed over to Kevin's parents' house and had takeout for dinner with his Mom and Dad, Kelly, Steve, Olivia, and Hannah.

But first here is a picture of Riley gearing up to eat a pomegranate Friday night:

So, we visited for a while at Kevin's parents' house. And Kevin brought the remainder of our Beanboozled jelly beans with disgusting flavors, but no one was all that keen on eating any after our experience at Riley's birthday party!

Liv built a very tall tower until it collapsed!

And we surprised Riley with another ice cream cake—which Kelly bought, and everyone except Riley knew we would be having for dessert :)

When we got home later, Kevin and I watched The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (which he had never seen) and then he showed me an episode of Frasier with Zooey Deschanel in it (the only thing he had ever seen her in, until Hitchhiker's Guide).

Sprucing Up the Hive

We had ordered some hexagonal shelves earlier in the week and had them shipped to Kevin's parents' house so they wouldn't get porch-pirated. So with those in our possession, we spent Sunday afternoon doing lots of measuring in preparation to install them.

But not before a quick (six minute) trip to Five Below for some artificial succulents, followed by a quick (over an hour) trip to Michael's for some greenery, miniature jars, and other decor to help us create the look we were going for.

I think we nailed it!

Having spent most of the day on the honeycomb project, we didn't have a dinner plan lined up. So we caved and ordered pizza from Bambino's.

Last week when I confessed to Kevin that he's hard to shop for and asked what he wanted for Valentine's Day, he reminded me that he had run out of bookshelves and resorted to using his childhood bookcase for most of his computer science books in his "office" on his side of the bedroom. He knew it wasn't "romantic" but said he would love an upgrade if that was something I was interested in doing for him since he hadn't gotten around to it yet.

So, I conceded. The bookcase arrived on Monday. And Kevin had already assembled it before I even got home from work:

But he also had home-cooked Mexican chicken and rice burrito bowls ready for dinner when I got home :)

And later that evening we watched Pump Up the Volume, because he had never seen it and I had a feeling "Christian Slater running a pirate radio station" would be up his alley.

(It was... aside from a few quibbles here and there about how he could have better protected his anonymity.)

On Tuesday I had a horrible migraine and stayed home from work. Kevin had lunch plans with his good friend Richard—who surprised us with a family Christmas present and a housewarming gift. He got us a copy of the game Balderdash and a countertop hydroponic garden so we can grow fresh herbs (particularly basil!) in the kitchen.

He and Kevin went out for hoagies at Dale's Deli and took a scenic drive through Penndel (Richard's old stomping grounds) afterwards. Then later in the evening Kevin, Riley, and I ordered Bambino's for dinner yet again, because none of us felt like cooking.

Wednesday night we decided to try Qdoba and see whether Larry or Nai'mah was working. And they were both there, just like old times! So, we had a nice visit with them.

The bad news is that Larry will be transferring to the Bensalem location soon. But the good news is, that's only a few miles farther from us than the one we go to now (and it's actually about five minutes quicker of a drive, despite the longer distance). So we will have to split our time between locations and make sure we visit both our Qdoba friends equally :)

When we got home from dinner, Kevin and I watched the first episode of the series Spartacus: Blood and Sand which he has seen several times and said I would enjoy. (And I did!)
