Family Fourth of July Party

Fun with Riley, then at Kevin's family's July 4th party!

Family Fourth of July Party
Just some raw ingredients being "plateriotic"!

This has been a busy weekend! Kevin and I didn't feel like doing much when we got back from our Friday night grocery shopping, so we ended up watching Muppet Treasure Island (since it had come up recently while hanging out with Riley).

Then we hung out with Riley on Saturday. We grabbed some fried chicken for lunch, played some frisbee, watched funny YouTube videos, and just talked.

On Sunday, I helped Kevin harvest a final batch of spinach. The plants were so big they looked like tiny trees! But he said they were "bolting" (flowering and going to seed) and not really worth saving much longer. So we got a ton of spinach to use in a spinach dip Kevin wanted to make. Later that evening, Kevin convinced me to give the Terminator movies a chance. I have never seen any of them, but we watched the first one and it actually wasn't bad.

Then yesterday was Kevin's family's Fourth of July party. We really hoped Riley would come so Kevin's family could meet her, but she had already made plans with her friend Kassie.

Kevin and I made a spinach basil cilantro parmesan dip with spinach and herbs from our garden. I would not have thought of pairing basil and cilantro, but Kevin said he felt like it was going to work and just made up the recipe that morning. And it was awesome!

Everyone I had already met from Kevin's family was there: Roy and Sue and their kids' families. I finally got to meet Kevin's cousin Laura (who hadn't been at Ellie's party a few weeks back) and her oldest son J.D. and his girlfriend. Laura and I exchanged tattoo stories. Kevin and I played with Liam and Natalie in the pool. Then we played frisbee and soccer with Natalie, Kayla, Liam, Crawford, Maya, and Ava. We all had a lot of fun!

Later that night, Kevin and I watched the second Terminator film. And I just found out that he harvested the rest of the garlic today while I was at work! We use garlic in just about everying, so I'm sure it won't go to waste :)
