Friendly Fire! (and Tacos)
Riley and Kevin battle for the cup!
Kevin mentioned recently that his next-door neighbor raved about the food (and the prices) at the Pines Tavern in Bristol. But this was before Kevin and I had met, his first thought had been yeah, that's great, but I don't see myself going 45 minutes to Bristol just for a bite to eat.
But Bristol is barely 10 minutes from me. So we decided we'd check it out! Kevin wanted to stock up on meat for his house, so we stopped at the Amish food market first and left the meat in my refrigerator when we stopped by my apartment to pick up Riley. (Taylor and Ahlina have declined Kevin's invitations to hang out six times in a row now, so this time he only bothered inviting Riley. And of course she said yes right away!)
The Pines Tavern was incredible! We could hardly decide what to order since we basically wanted to try every single thing on the menu. The food was top notch, the bill was very affordable, and we will absolutely be coming back!
Kevin and Riley spent most of the meal teasing each other. We had inadvertently sat at the table right in front of the specials menu, so Kevin kept insisting that everyone who came in was going to stare right at Riley when they tried to see the specials. And then they would tell everyone else in their party to look at that weirdo with the purple hair. (Then Riley fired back with the classic they're going to look at YOU because YOU'RE a weirdo.)
As we approached the Friendly's in front of my apartment complex on the way home, Kevin asked how we felt about ice cream. So we stopped at Friendly's for ice cream sundaes.
When we decided we all wanted the same Reese's cup sundae but I didn't actually want my peanut butter cup, Riley called dibs on it, to which Kevin scoffed and said he was going to eat it before she even had a chance.
I think she thought he was kidding! But the moment our waiter set my sundae down, Kevin pounced like a ninja, grabbed my Reese's cup, and stuffed it in his mouth while Riley was blocked by the waiter setting her sundae down in front of her.
But as he was gloating, she reached out and grabbed his Reese's cup, although he was able to partially intercept her and grabbed a little more than half of it back.
Then he started referring to her as Buttercup. I have a feeling it's going to stick!
We hung out again yesterday evening, this time at Kevin's. He had invited all three girls, and they all expressed their intentions to come, but then Taylor and Ahlina backed out.
Naturally, Kevin teased Riley that she could only have one of the 15 Reese's cups he had bought at the store. But I think she ended up eating nine or ten of them by the end of the night! (She got a head start while Kevin and I made tacos for dinner.)
After dinner we played some Uno, went outside and kicked around a soccer ball, and Kevin showed Riley his plants and composting worms. Then we had ice cream sundaes, watched some funny videos on YouTube, and let Riley hang out with Kevin's cat Penny.
I wish Taylor had come too, but I'm glad that at least Riley had a blast.
