Happy Birt day, Emily!

Caterpillars, cornhole, and a T-Rex attack at Emily's birt day party!

Happy Birt day, Emily!
Orlando uses (telekinesis?) to try to save Noah from the T-Rex while Brandon and I look on in amusement, relatively certain that we can run faster than our friends if need be ;)

Athennia and I went to her best friend Emily's birthday party today, hosted by her surrogate parents Aimee and Ken at their house in Fairless Hills.

Aside from Emily and Orlando, Athennia and I were the first ones there... They happened to be outside when we arrived; so, they came and greeted us at the car—where I presented the decent-sized bag of garden veggies I had brought for them. Orlando started rummaging through—eyes widening cartoonishly when he found the cucumbers...

Dude! I was just about to make a batch of pickles one of these days!

Then he saw the handful of jalapeños and all the tomatoes...

Dude! I was gonna make salsa, too!

Awesome. Enjoy, man!

We caught up with Em and O while they shucked some corn. They were lamenting the number of caterpillars they managed to find; so, I told them about the 2:1 ratio I had experienced when I was living in Grenada. (By the way, that's not two caterpillars per ear of corn: That's two caterpillars per every kernel of corn in each ear.)

We also got the scoop on why the birthday balloons Ken had hung in the kitchen spelled out H-A-P-P-Y  B-I-R-T   D-A-Y. Mistakes were made, and apparently there had been a casualty.

I met a bunch of Athennia's colleagues: Luna and Chris; Brandon; Adriana; Alexio (Lex); Jose, his fiancee Leslie, and their sons Ethan and Noah; and Orlando's sister Zelmary and her wife Kim. Aimee and Ken's daughter Ashley and her husband Zachary were also there—as were three dogs: Penny (Ashley and Zachary's), Orion (Z and Kim's), and Axle (Jose's).

Athennia and I played some cornhole with Luna and Chris, and then again later with Chris and Lex once he'd arrived.

Orlando grilled burgers, dogs, chicken, and the corn; and Ken started a bonfire once the sun had started to set. Then we got ambushed by someone that may or may not have been Emily in an inflatable T-Rex costume.

Jose's kids played Jenga with the life-sized set Ken had (made out of foot-long 2x4s); and, as Athennia and I were leaving around 11:30, Orlando and Lex were sitting down to play some Battleshots (a version of Battleship where your ships are actually shot glasses, and you have to drink them if you get hit).

We had a blast, and I'm 99.99% sure Emily had a happy birt day :)
