Mad Mex and Happy Valentines

Kevin's Birthday

While we were at Las Margaritas on our first date back in December, Kevin had mentioned another Mexican restaurant called Mad Mex over in Willow Grove. So, I decided to take him out to dinner there for his birthday earlier this month!

They had a special on gigantic margaritas that night, and we drank a few more than we probably should have. Kevin wasn't sure if they were even going to serve him... He explained to our waiter,

I never carry ID on me, but today's my 37th birthday. I don't necessarily expect you to believe that though, so if you can't serve me alcohol, I completely understand.

Our waiter readily assured him,

Oh no, you're good, dude.

Kevin facetiously frowned and forced a nod.

All right. No more getting carded. Awesome... I guess.

When we were ready to order our food, Kevin asked our waiter for his advice on getting nachos vs. a burrito. Our waiter raved about how the burrito was so big that "it comes with a knife," which we just took to mean that it's probably big enough that some people knife and fork it instead of trying to eat it with their hands.

But, sure enough, this football-sized burrito came out from the kitchen with a knife plunged into it like it was Excalibur waiting for the chosen one to come along and pull it from the stone! Kevin did the best he could. And, in his defense, the margaritas had filled us up by the time dinner arrived.

Finally, I got him a T-shirt with the Windows "blue screen of death" on it. He enjoys wearing it out in public to see if anyone comments, so that he can declare,

I knew I should have worn my Linux shirt. This is EXACTLY why I never wear my Windows shirt anywhere: It's always crashing!

Valentine's Day

On Sunday (February 13th), Kevin surprised me with a gift basket filled with my favorite perfume (which he's secretly enlisted Taylor for help with), a black-raspberry vanilla candle (combining two of our favorite scents), some body lotion, a pack of cupcake and cotton candy flavored chap stick, some lingerie, a custom crossword puzzle he had created for me, and of course a lovely card.

I got him a new coffee mug to replace his old one that was heating up too much in the microwave to even be touched. It says,

You say introvert. I say state of the art social filtration system that improves the quality and purity of interactions by preemptively reducing contaminants.

...which is pretty much Kevin's M.O. :)

I filled it with candy and gave him a card as well.

He told me we were staying in and cooking dinner together while "the rubes perform their annual ritual of overpaying for a mediocre dinner at some jam-packed restaurant."

We made a chicken penne alfredo bake that he had found online, and he revealed that he had bought a bottle of moscato and tasked his sister with baking us what turned out to be a fabulous raspberry cake!

Even Mario and Luigi can't believe how amazing this cake was. Thanks, Kelly!

(Kelly asked us to send her a picture of the cut cake, so Kevin jokingly sent her this one. The piranha plant is from a game that Olivia got Kevin for his birthday so they can play it together when she's a little older.)

Yesterday on actual Valentine's Day, I went to Kevin's after work and we just played some rummy and relaxed. Ironically, we did go out to dinner, but only to Qdoba. :)
