Mayor May Not

May's cast of characters is as unpredictable as its weather.

Mayor May Not

Kevin and I reported last month that we've been going for walks after dinner pretty much every night that weather allows.

But, it is May...

As in, it may or may not be cold.

And, it may or may not rain.

So here was the sky before dinner on the first of the month:

And here was the sky half an hour later after dinner:

But we went for a walk anyway!

And then for another on Friday the 2nd as well.

On Saturday we headed over to Catherine and Ron's house and watched Happy Gilmore with them since Adam Sandler and crew are working on a sequel.

Catherine laughed a lot more than Kevin and I had expected :)

Then we had sloppy joes and pizza mac and cheese for dinner with them and Kelly's family. And Catherine, Kelly, Hannah, Kevin, and I went out for a walk in Catherine and Ron's neighborhood afterward.

Kevin got a picture of this tree leaking sap everywhere:

And sure enough, here was the sky when we got home to the apartment later that night:

🤔
Didn't it used to be April showers?

April showers bring May flowers?

What do May showers bring then?

On Sunday Kevin texted me while I was out doing the laundry and food shopping, and asked if I could procure him and Riley some Popeyes.

So I brought home a dozen spicy tenders and fries for them to split, and they had dinner together just the two of them :)

Tuesday night as we headed out for our walk, Kevin got this artsy shot of a bird on the wires:

Then "Dog Abuse Kid" showed up outside our window on Wednesday.

He was whipping his dog with some sort of lanyard he had with him, but not severely enough that Kevin thought the cops would be likely to view it as a definitive case of abuse:

The kid spotted Kevin recording him though, so we don't think he's likely to come around again. Or at least not to do anything questionable in view of our cameras.

Lovely weather that evening though!

So we headed out for a walk!

We've been running into the same guy back in the neighborhood for more than a month now, and we barely get a response from him when we say hello.

Kevin calls him "Mr. Personality" and told me that he's done bothering with even saying hi to the guy, but I said I'd give it one last go the next time we saw him.

Half an hour later, we turned a corner and saw Mr. Personality half a block ahead, walking the same direction as us but not as fast.

So when we got up level with him, I called a hello across the street and then tried to start a conversation with him:

👋
Me: Hello! I'm Athennia by the way. And this is my husband Kevin.
🤠
Him: I'm Dave. That's my house right there.

<points to a yellow house with a wraparound porch that we pass by every night>
👩🏼
Me: Oh my god, I love your porch! There's just something so cozy about a wraparound porch.
🤠
Him: Yeah, it's nice to be able to sit outside again. When I was the mayor I couldn't sit out there, because everyone driving by would see me and want to stop and talk.
🤯
Kevin: Wait, WHAT?! This guy used to be a mayor?

He comes across as a total burnout! Like, Kevin Mitnick as a Deadhead. And I say that fully aware that I'm 40 and dressed like a middle school kid.

But it was easy enough to verify. We came home and googled it, and sure enough we found a bunch of pictures of the guy handing awards to various cops and firemen over the years.

He's a little fitter now since he's out walking every night, but this is him:

Dave Rivella, former mayor of Morrisville.

Who knew?!

In other news on the cast of characters we encounter on our walks, we've had to change our route a few times as we've consistently surpassed the 2-mile and 3-mile marks, and now we walk past this thing almost every night:

Kevin calls it "Truck E. Cheese."

🤔
"I've been thinking about heading over to Wal-Mart to get a new blender. You think I can get Truckie to haul it for me if I throw him a couple quarters? I mean his bed is the perfect size."

Finally, Kevin started writing a letter over the weekend to his old friend Joe who he hasn't seen or talked to since they had a big falling out back in the fall of 2020.

But he finished the letter last night and asked me to drop it off at the post office on my way to work this morning.

👩🏼
Me: Wait, Joe's not the narcissist, right?
😩
Kevin: Nope, that was Jim. I haven't talked to him in nearly 12 years now and never will again.
👩🏼
Me: Got it.
😀
Kevin: Joe and his family are good people though. It would be cool to reconnect if he's game.

Well? He may. Or he may not.

I guess we'll have to wait and see what happens.
