October 2023 Newsletter

Hey all,

Pretty busy month for us in October—and it feels like the first time in quite a while that that's happened!

Things were still very iffy on the house and property front at the beginning of the month; but, we made some great headway and it seems like we're in pretty good shape for the time being.

And of course, we spent lots of time with family, got out to a few parks for some great hikes with lots of pictures, and celebrated Halloween like a bunch of giddy four-year-olds.

Without further ado, here are our October adventures...

Burgers, Kings, Mustaches, and Warnings

The USDA welcomed us into October by pulling the rug out from under us on our funding for the house (thanks to a pending government shutdown). We consoled ourselves by eating a lot of Burger King for the following week; we almost met Mike Tyson and Mr. Peanut; and we checked out the pond formerly known as the Neshaminy Creek.

A Ray of Hope Amidst a Grimm Week

We finished the final season of Grimm (a solid seven years after everyone else did), got a glimmer of hope on the good old "stormwater management" front that's been holding up our house and property plans for eons now, went to Applebee's, and baked some pumpkin bread.

Hollow Darkness, My Old Friend

We made a long-overdue return to Dark Hollow (and found it quite on the soggy side as usual); Athennia and Riley tried to tackle a couple ginacotti at Julio's; we spied on our downstairs neighbors; and Kevin and his friend Richard narrowly avoided getting quailed by Dick Cheney in the forest.

Playin' at the 'Wicki!

We finally received a solid answer on the "stormwater" question. Then Riley and Taylor (and company) went to FallFest at Shady Brook Farm, and Athennia and Kevin went hiking at Playwicki Park. Also, we pulled off some killer enchiladas.

Paradise, Potato Skin, and Punkins (and a Keleton)

We started moving forward with our house plans again; dined like royalty at Friendly's; went spelunking for "punkins" with Liv, Hannah, Kelly, and Steve; and spent Halloween night with a princess and a "keleton." (Then the web server puked out all the month's cat pics at the end of the blog post.)

We've got a few adventures lined up for November—first of which is that Athennia and Riley will finally get to meet Kevin's Aunt Lois and Uncle Jim this coming weekend!

(And then there's of course Thanksgiving, and pushing our closing date for the property out another month or two because we're still not ready for settlement—all the usual November festivities.)

We're anticipating a spectacular month all in all though, and we hope it will be for all of you as well :)

Cheers for now,

Kevin & Athennia & Riley & Taylor
