Nifty Thrifty
Burgers, shakes, and saving 15% on Athennia's car insurance.
Nifty
On Saturday, Athennia and I took Riley out for burgers and shakes at Nifty Fifties in Warminster. Then we hung out at my parents' to swim with Kelly, Steve, and Olivia; and, unbeknownst to us, Ron was planning to grill hotdogs and Italian sausages (with glazed doughnuts for dessert). So, we stayed for that too.
Athennia and Riley were playing on their phones after dinner; so, I hung out with Olivia and we rocked out to some old-school Mudvayne and Coal Chamber. Then I showed her the legendary Ketchupbot video about a dozen times in a row...
Then Athennia and Riley and I swam some more and muscled down some ice cream before we headed back to Athennia's to drop Riley off.
I showed Athennia Delerium's phenomenal album Nuages du Monde on the drive.
Thrifty
Sunday was mostly a "work day." Progressive had announced their intention to jack up her auto-insurance rates under the guise of "inflation" (would that be the same inflation whose existence Powell and Yellen have spent months denying?); so, I urged her to shop around, get some quotes, and send them to the mines if they wanted to play hardball.
Surprisingly, they turned out to be the cheapest; but, she called and complained anyway and got a decent chunk of change knocked off her premium. Then she bundled her renter's insurance and got an additional discount (on both premiums). That's a win in my book!
Meanwhile, Taylor had been asking for help opening a bank account—since minors can operate two-ton vehicles in the Land of the Free, but aren't allowed to open bank accounts on their own. I did some research and found that Citizen's Bank appeared to be the least worst option for a teenager in our area. (I can't bring myself to call any bank the best: They're all crap in some form; it's just a matter of where they fall on the scale from one to Wells Fargo.) So, we filled out the required privacy-forfeiture form and had a debit card shipped to Taylor at Lou's address.
Later in the evening, we did our meal-prep for the week—mixing, shaping, and cooking our usual mega-batch of meatballs. Then we played some rummy and killed off the last of the ice cream before it was time for Athennia to get home and get a "good night's sleep" (four hours, maybe?) to start the new work week.
