Our Privacy Policy

Wait; what? Someone's actually reading our privacy policy?!

You've either wandered in here by mistake, or you're like us and you value your personal privacy... Nice! Our kind may be a dying breed; but, we assure you, you're in good company here :)

Sorry to disappoint you if you were looking forward to a thousand pages of convoluted legalese outlining all the ways we spy on you and mine your personal information to assemble a profile we can sell to advertisers and three-letter government agencies...

The cold, hard reality is that privacy is our policy—to the extent that we can sum up our position in just a few succinct paragraphs:

Good things, small packages, yadda-yadda-yadda...

For starters, this is (and will remain) just a small personal blog for our loved ones: We only share the link with family and friends, and we've taken steps to block search engines like Google and Bing from indexing and presenting our content in search results.

There are no advertisements here, nor any third-party cookies or social media icons trying to track you. (In fact, the only "tracking" we employ are some automated statistics to let us know if someone stops opening our emails over time... so we can reach out and offer to stop pestering them with updates.)

Furthermore, Kevin built this site and operates the server that runs it (you can read more about that here if you'd like); so, he knows the exact number of sleazy corporations who have access your data on the back end and might decide to hoover up your email address and start spamming you to kingdom come...

That number is zero ;)

Do unto others...

We're additionally quite selective in what we publish: We employ a "no last names" policy and often omit personal details regarding events such as birthdays (e.g. the exact day, what age we turned, and so on).

We happily extend this same policy to our loved ones: If we're close enough to you that we've shared the link to our blog with you, it's likely that you also see us "in real life" with some degree of regularity—and may thereby find yourself mentioned in a post from time to time! Rest assured, we take care to only publish details we'd be open to someone sharing about us.

Naturally, this applies to photos as well! Incidentally, none of us is particularly fond of having our picture taken; but, we make sure the photos we do share are fully privacy-respecting:

  • posted with the consent of all depicted individuals
  • cropped when needed, to obscure sensitive/revealing details (such as house numbers in the background)
  • scrubbed of EXIF metadata such as the date of the photo, the GPS coordinates of the location where it was taken, et cetera.

In summary...

Privacy is paramount in our book—on multiple levels!

Taylor and Riley are figuring themselves out and navigating the minefield of teenagehood...

Athennia has a career working on cutting-edge technology, and an employer who relentlessly drives home the importance of protecting company secrets from prying eyes...

And Kevin has been living and breathing privacy-related concepts since his early teenage years (both technically and philosophically).

Long story short, we take our privacy very seriously, and we take yours just as seriously.
