Sunday, Rain Day, Mayday, Green Day

Green beds without ham. But oh, the places we went!

Sunday, Rain Day, Mayday, Green Day

Sunday

Sunday started off quiet. Kevin and I stayed in bed until almost 10:30 before we finally got up and made breakfast.

Then we had a lot ripening in the garden, which we harvested, and I took some photos while Kevin trimmed some yellowing branches off our tomato plants.

We relaxed until we got hungry for lunch and decided to grab some fried chicken at Giant. We passed an elderly woman in the parking lot. I remarked to Kevin that I hoped she would be okay with the three cases of water in her cart!

He hadn't noticed. But as soon as I commented about them, he started back across the parking lot and called over his shoulder to me...

Come with me so she knows I'm not a mugger!

(I'm pretty sure he ended up inadvertently startling her anyway, but he explained that he had walked right by without seeing that she had so much water, and he asked if he could load the cases into her trunk for her.)

Once she decided it wasn't a stick up, she was grateful for the help. And then we were on our way.

Rain Day

After lunch we decided to disregard the minuscule chance of rain and go for a walk in Kevin's neighborhood. We ended up getting misted on but it only helped cool us down a bit in the heat.

As we were returning from our walk, Kevin saw his neighbor John who has a furniture restoration business. Kevin's mom recently expressed interest in getting a quote on the dining room furniture that's been in her family since the early 1900s, so Kevin called out to John to ask him about taking a look and giving his mom a quote.

As he and John were talking, John's wife Tamar came over and invited us to come hang out in the backyard. She brought us each a beer and gave us a tour of their gardens and their chicken coop. Then the four of us sat on their patio and visited for the better part of an hour. Completely unplanned, but so much fun!

(And when I mentioned how much Riley would love to see the chickens, John and Tamar both readily insisted that I bring her over sometime! So we're hoping to do that this coming weekend, when the three of us will be having a little "staycation" at Kevin's.)

And finally, to close out the day, I received a notification that Riley has been accepted to Agora Cyber Charter School (following a months long paperwork battle stemming from the difference in her last name relative to mine). Taylor was accepted to Insight Cyber Charter School last week, so both of my kids are officially free of the Morrisville school district, which they've wanted for a very long time.

Mayday

On Monday I had plans to go right to Kevin's after work. But earlier in the afternoon I got a notification that my power had gone out from strong storms in the area. PECO had already provided three ETAs that had come and gone, all while they were confessing that they still didn't even know where or what the problem was yet. So I had no faith in their insistence that power would be restored later that night.

Kevin and I grabbed some travel coolers from his parents' and drove over to clean out my freezer and fridge. It was still clear in his area when we left, but by the time we got back the sky was dark and ominous looking!

Kevin got some great pictures while I was driving, and then I took some once we got back to his house. Then the clouds opened up for the first time in two months so our garden could have some much needed rain!

Green Day

Kevin's friend Fotini recently came back from a month in Greece, and she's our supplier for "the good stuff"...

"Breaking bag." (It's oregano, by the way. What else would it be?!)

Fotini hooked us up with a huge bag of freshly picked and dried Cretan oregano, and we gave her a bunch of tomatoes and a basil plant from the garden :)

The three of us went for a walk in Kevin's neighborhood, and then she headed home to get back to studying for the USMLE (medical licensing exam). So Kevin and I grabbed a pizza and some zeppoli from Schiano's and relaxed for a few hours until it was time for me to head home too and get some sleep for work the next morning.
