Triple Mother's Day

Three moms celebrate Mother's Day together. Then the Sugar Plum Fairy visits.

Triple Mother's Day

Well, I finally got my raise this past Wednesday!

When my boss called me in to present it to me, he was on the phone arguing in an attempt to get me twice what I was approved for. But H.R. vetoed the request because I haven't been with the company a full year yet.

Something is still better than nothing though!

Later that night Kevin, Riley, and I started season four of Breaking Bad. And then on Thursday I left work a couple hours early to be home for the Zoom call Kevin and I had scheduled with a woman named Erica at the courthouse to get our marriage license!!!

We had to appear together so they could see that neither of us was under duress, and then answer a few basic questions.

Are we each unmarried and legally able to enter into a marriage? (Yes.)

Do we swear that, to the best of our knowledge, we're not related by blood? (Yes.)

Is the sky blue? (Yes.)

Everything went off without a hitch except when Kevin got a little too used to automatically answering yes to every question...

So, when Erica asked us her final question of,

Are you insane, of unsound mind, or under a guardianship?

...Kevin misheard it as,

Are you of sane and sound mind or under a guardianship?

...and he rattled off another gratuitously blasΓ© yes.

πŸ˜‚
...which of course meant she had to stop and inquire further, until they realized it was just a simple misunderstanding.

But we all had a great laugh about it in the end!

Then we decided to order Chinese food for dinner, and toward the end of dinner Kevin was telling me about an incident that happened earlier in the afternoon...

For a bit of context, I sometimes call Penny the Sugar Plum Fairy because she has a (fortunately very rare) habit of every now and then leaving us a single "chocolate gumdrop" in some place other than her litter box.

So, apparently earlier in the day, Kevin had gone to use the bathroom and found a gumdrop on the floor just in front of the toilet. And because he's a mature adult, instead of just cleaning it up right away, he decided to knock on Riley's door to ask her, "Is this your turd that you left in front of the toilet?"

Which I'm 100% sure prompted a squinty eyed scowl from Riley, probably like this one:

Fast forward to the end of dinner, and Riley grabbed a fortune cookie to tear it open and read her fortune:

πŸ˜‚
Needless to say, Kevin pounced on this as his "proof that Riley was the one who missed the bowl".

And we all laughed until we had tears in our eyes!

Saturday night I cooked ribs for the first time in a long time, complete with mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, corn, and drop biscuits:

πŸ˜‹
Everything came out super delicious :)

Sunday was Mother's Day, and Kevin's parents had invited us over for dinner. So we headed over to Catherine and Ron's house late in the afternoon to visit and exchange gifts before we ate.

Kevin gave Riley a panicked glance and said he hoped she had remembered to buy me a card... which prompted another squinty eyed scowl:

But of course he had helped her with this weeks ago :)

So Riley gave me an adorable card with a pop up cat tower inside, and she and Kevin gave me two frogs that I can take to work and stick on the top of my monitor to make me think of them throughout the day:

Then Kevin gave me another card, making me promise before I opened it that I would read it out loud "and do the voice":

But I ended up making him read it for me, since he does a better Trump impression than me. And then he and Riley gave me a dashcam because we watch a lot of "Idiots in Cars" videos on YouTube and I always say how much they stress me out because of my chaotic commute to and from work every day.

I also got nice cards from Kevin's parents and from Kelly and Steve. And we had brought flowers and cards for Catherine and Kelly :)

Kevin took this picture of Catherine opening her gift from Olivia and Hannah, and then another one "of all the moms and daughters":

Ron grilled London broil for dinner and we had cupcakes and angel food cake with strawberries for dessert :)

Kevin had bought Liv some sidewalk chalk, so he suggested that she ask Riley to go outside and play with her:

Just before we left, Kevin signed their artwork for them ;)

On Monday while he was helping Riley in math class, he sent me this drawing the teacher had just done... which I understand they enjoyed a good laugh over:

...And then he provided commentary:

If you pull a marble from this bag and don't replace it, is that

A) an independent event?
B) a dependent event?
C) a botched vasectomy and a malpractice lawsuit?

P.S. Riley definitely got this right! The teacher's sharing Breyyah's screen right now or something :/

I guess art really is in the eye of the beholder.

One math teacher's marble is another man's... well, something else.
