One Step Forward...

...and the proverbial two steps back.

One Step Forward...
Riley's cat Lucky (and three teenagers' idea of "clean")

It's been an... interesting week so far.

This past Saturday, I cooked dinner for Kevin and his parents. I made rotini with sweet sausage, peppers, and onions, and also baked some corn bread. And Kevin and I had bought some strawberry margarita wine.

Taylor called me that afternoon to tell me the good news that she and her girlfriend Ahlina got hired at the Giant right near my apartment! I've been urging them to get jobs for quite some time now, and I'm really happy for them.

On Sunday, Kevin's parents asked for his help opening their pool. I had to take it easy because my ankle is still acting up, but I did what I could too. Kevin said he might as well get their deck furniture out while we were there, and then he decided to go down to the basement and hang the new plant lights I bought him (in preparation to hopefully start some new seedlings sometime this week).

Later on we made a triple batch of meatballs for the week and threw together a sausage and veggie pizza for dinner:

Not too shabby for a 10 minute meal! (plus 15 minutes cooking time)

Yesterday Kevin and I had dinner with his parents and Kelly, Steve, and Olivia. Ron made BBQ chicken, Kevin and I brought wine and cornbread, and Kelly baked brownies for dessert.

...Two Steps Back

And this afternoon, it finally happened. After months of the kids ignoring my warnings about the consequences of their apparent mission to collect every pet in a 500 mile radius, I got a call from my landlord. The neighbors have been complaining about Ahlina's dog barking day and night. And when someone from maintenance came to look into it, he saw enough of the big picture between Lucky's litter box, Noodle's cage (ferret), Littlefoot's tank (bearded dragon). So, I'm being cited for the pets and have ten days to get them out of my apartment.

My mom unexpectedly offered to let Taylor and Ahlina bring some of the animals and move into one of her spare bedrooms. So fortunately they already had a plan of attack in place before I even got home from work. But this was definitely a headache I did not need right now, and it's going to be a stressful ten days trying to get things ready at my mom's house, prepare all the pets for transport, and get everything done in just a week and a half when I'm already working 45+ hour weeks.

Wish us luck!!!
